One day to go!! BNN mag blijven!
Jun 22

Yesterday we finally had the Metallica concert! The day before the concert I made the banner below:

We arrived at the Amsterdam Arena at about 10:30 am. There were already a lot of people, but we still had a pretty good chance to get in front of the stage.
At 4:30 amthe gates were open, and the contest to get in front og the stage began.
Unfortunately the security was pretty strict, and it took ages to get past them.
Then we had to run into the stadium as fast as possible, wich was a challenge, as we had to run up on a large stairs to get into the stadium. In the stadium we had to run around the entire arena to reach the first ring in front of the stage. It was really a terribly long way to run!! But anything to get in the first ring of the arena to get in front of the stage, so if it means run until you drop, what the heck!
We’ve made it into the first ring, in front of the stage.
But unfortunately the entrance of the stadium was on the short site of the stadium, wich means the stage was build over the entire long side of the stadium!
Actually we were in front of the stage, but we were in front at the leftback of the stage!

So during Slipknot and Korn we weren’t able to see a lot as the stage was curved as well, and the bands played in the middle of the stage!
Well, one Goofey of Slipknot (the one with the mask with long nose) ran on the stage fron side to side and even went of the stage to run near the crowd! So we shook his hand when he passed us!
Eeeekkkkk!! I immediately washed that hand when we came home!

During the entire concert the security was pretty busy to collect all cameras as it was forbidden to make any pics. I found it very childish, as in my opinion when someone manages to smuggle in a camera this means the security at the entrance didn’t do their job well. So in that case leave the person with the camera alone. When you looked up to the gallery, there were light flashes of cameras all over. The security didn’t do a thing about the people on the gallery who were making pics! It was very easy to only catch the peops in front of the stage!

Slipknot pretty much sucked! Ries and I don’t like Slipknot at all. Korn was great, even though the sound was terrible. But that’s because the acoustics of the Amsterdam Arena are terrible.

And Metallica kicked ass!! They were great!! They used the entire stage, so we got to see a lot of the band apart from Lars who was with his drums at the opposite from us. Unfortunately the sound wasn’t that great, but it was the acoustics of the stadium.
When James and Kirk were standing nearby we showed the banner and they had to laugh!
The show was really great with lots of fireworks. I am sure from the gallery the fireworks looked great, but I didn’t like it that much, as it was pretty hot, the bangs were terribly loud and it smelled bad.

At the beginning of the show someone fell from the gallery 10 meters down! From distance it looked pretty bad, an ambulance had been called to help the dude. The stupid person swinging on a cover curtain. But he was too heavy for the curtain, so the curtain fell down. The dude was lucky for just breaking his leg!

At the end the bandmembers were throwing guitarpicks and Larses drumsticks to the crowd. I got one of Kirks guitarpics as I noticed a securitymember picked it up. No-one noticed him picking it up, so I reached out my hand and he gave it to me. So I gave the guitarpick to Ries, as he’s a big Metallica fan.

After the concert it took ages to get outsite, as there was only one way out for the entire stadium.
It really sucked a lot! In fact, the stadium sucks! It really sucks! I hope in future I will not go there again to see a concert.
But Metallica, they really kicked ass!!!! Hope to see them again soon!
